Miklós Rakos (1947 – 2019)

Miklós Rakos, violin and viola teacher and music researcher was born in Hungary, 24. 01. 1947. He began his violin studies in Veszprém – where Leopold Auer, the famous violin professor was born – , and graduated as a violinist at the Teacher’s training College of the „Ferenc Liszt” Music Academy, Budapest. After getting his diplom, for the next 10 years period of time he was a member of the viola section in the Budapest (MÁV) Symphony Orchestra, and the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra. Later on – going on with his music activity – he began to teach violin and viola, and was involved in musicology, too. He published studies and books about the history of the hungarian violin playing, and the hungarian dance music style of the 18th and 19th century.

From the year 1995 he writes the music historys column of „The Orchestra” – the Magazine of the Association of the Hungarian Symphony Orchestras – which is published six times per year. He restored the Bartók Viola Concerto (Op. posth.), and he published the reconstructed work for viola and piano in 2016, with a study about it entitled „Béla Bartók’s Viola Concerto restored with the aid of the Fibonacci number sequence”. This publication could be a useful study aid for viola players and students.

Miklós Rakos died on October 28, 2019 at the age of 72.
